BBE partners with Alaskan Aboriginal transportation company

Trans-border transportation in the North just got easier.

On February 29, 2008, Northwest Territories’ Braden Burry Expediting and Alaska’s Kuukpik Carlile Transport signed a memorandum of understanding, outlining a partnership that effectively spans the top of Arctic North America, and connects all three oceans with the southern supply chains and transportation infrastructure.

“This partnership will allow us to improve the flow of goods, documents and data for companies working in the North, like Shell E&P in the Alaskan Beaufort Sea,” said Stuart Russell, Vice-President of Business Development for BBE. “This partnership provides our collective customers with access to a seamless trans-border shipping processes between the US and Canada’s northern frontiers.

“Kuukpik Carlile sees the partnership with BBE to be powerful for the customers that we serve on both sides of the border. BBE and Kuukpik Carlile both provide multi modal logistics services for our remote site clients, and have an emphasis on ground to air transfers, passenger terminal services and end-to-end supply chain logistics services. It is a great partnership,” said Tom Hendrix, Manager of New Business Development for Carlile Transportation Services, Kuukpik Carlile’s parent company.

BBE is part of the Norterra group of companies, which are jointly owned by the Inuvialuit Development Corporation of the Western Arctic and the Inuit of the Eastern Arctic under the Nunasi Corporation banner. BBE is headquartered in Yellowknife, NWT, and has offices in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta; Inuvik, NWT; and Iqaluit, Nunavut. BBE also has partnerships in Fort Simpson, NWT, and Baker Lake, Nunavut.

Founded in 1977, BBE is now the largest logistics company based in the NWT.

Kuukpik Carlile's corporate headquarters office is located in Nuiqsut, Alaska.

“That location provides the support necessary for oversight and quality control as well as some physical operations functions for the joint venture established between Carlile Transportation Systems Inc. and the native village of Nuiqsut. With the combined facilities and technology we can give our customers working in the Alaskan and Canadian Arctic seamless end-to-end logistics execution and tracking from anywhere in the continental US, Canada and Alaska,” said Hendrix.
