BBE helps NWT kids rock at Geoscience Forum
Educating northern students about the resource industry is key to securing a sustainable future for the NWT. So, when BBE was approached to participate in the Student Career Awareness Passport pilot education program during this yearís Geoscience Forum tradeshow, they knew it would be an excellent opportunity to teach kids about their business and the various careers they provide.
“We put forward a list of questions for the kids to ask us in advance,” said Sean Gray from BBE, Regional Manager of Business Development for the Western Arctic. “The kids learned about careers with BBE, that we have 100% Aboriginal ownership and that we have branch offices not only here in the NWT, but in Nunavut, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.”
Over 360 students, wearing NWT ROCKS! t-shirts, participated in the pilot program put on by the Geoscience Forum Education Committee. The program was created to educate students, teachers and school counsellors about geoscience and careers in the northís non-renewable resource industries.
“Through your participation in this student activity, BBE may have very well planted a few seeds in some young minds for possible careers,” said Colleen Eckert of the NWT Teacherís Association, as part of the Geoscience Forum Education Committee.
