BBE offers Truth and Reconciliation logistical support The town of Inuvik, NT, is bustling in preparation for the Northern National Truth and Reconciliation event – and so is BBE. As one of the seven national events being hosted in different regions of Canada by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), the northern national event occurring June 28, 2011 to July 1, 2011 in Inuvik is expecting to draw 1,500 attendants from across the country. The purpose of the national event is to engage the Canadian public and provide education about the history of the residential schools system, the experience of former students and their families, and the ongoing legacies of the institutions within communities. “We knew this was going to be a big event for the town of Inuvik, so earlier in the spring, we approached the local TRC Coordinator to offer our logistical support services,” said Sean Gray, Regional Manager of Business Development for BBE Western Arctic, based in Inuvik, NT. “They wound up needing our help to organize the handling of quite a bit of rented equipment such as tables, chairs, audio and visual systems, and 11 golf carts that are going to be used to transport participants around the event sites,” said Gray. The BBE Edmonton operations facilitated consolidating and loading the items onto the Canadian Armed Forces Lockheed Martin C130J Hercules aircraft over three days and BBE Inuvik handled the offloading and delivery. They will also handle the demobilization back to Edmonton after the event is over. “One of the three Herc loads was full of golf carts and, because they were gas powered, it was actually more economical for us to drive them into town, rather than to deliver by truck,” said Gray. “Our parade of golf carts was probably quite a sight to see.” “We are already planning the demobilization with TRC and the Department of National Defense, just to ensure that everything goes smoothly,” said Gray.
