BBE and the Salvation Army:
At
BBE, we know not everyone in the north can afford a very Merry Christmas.
That’s why BBE chooses to donate to the Salvation Army every year
in lieu of sending out Christmas cards to our corporate clients.
“We feel our clients understand there are many people in need in
our community who would appreciate a Christmas dinner even more than our
clients would enjoy receiving a Christmas card from us,” says Gord
Stewart, CEO of BBE.
This is the fourth year BBE has made the donation to the Salvation Army
in lieu of cards, though we had previously adopted families at Christmas.
The annual donation from BBE is used to purchase turkeys and all the fixings
for a traditional Christmas dinner.
“We really want to thank BBE. Your donation makes it easier for
us to buy turkeys, so families can have a nice Christmas dinner,”
says Major Bob Mackenzie of the Yellowknife Salvation Army. Once the turkeys
and dinner ingredients are purchased, they are flown out to the communities
and distributed there, often by local RCMP members.
Major Mackenzie says that a monetary donation like BBE’s is preferable
to pre-wrapped gifts. “Mom and Dad like to wrap the gifts themselves,
to enjoy that part of Christmas,” he says.
With a complete Christmas dinner, and gifts to wrap, the Salvation Army
warms hearts across the north. “It’s Santa Claus in action
up north,” says Major Mackenzie. “And BBE helps make that
happen every year.”
